Alcatel is a telecommunications company which is a major supplier to Telkom.

In the Phonecard project; Alcatel had developed the electronics and they asked The Good Guise to design a piggy-back enclosure which would work in conjunction with the existing Venus phone.  Many factors had to be considered; aesthetics, ease of use, intuitive, retro-fit, LCD display, card reader and so on.

These are rough Concept Models for the ‘Phonecard’ project.  ‘Phonecard’ was designed to connect to the Venus telephone (landline).  A user would purchase a pre-paid card which would be inserted into the card receiving device.  An LCD display would indicate call usage.  This device could be a retro-fit. These are some of the foam model studies to determine the correct form that will express the right balance of technical sophistication and human and easily accessible control surfaces. Product Designers are trained to understand how to manipulate form and John demonstrates his skills in this telephone study.
