Our client, Pirouette Costume Hire, had a request for a “Sally” costume. Their customer wanted to attend a themed cosplay party. Our brief was to replicate “Sally” from the movie ‘Nightmare before Christmas’, an animated musical dark fantasy Halloween film directed by Henry Slick and produced by Tim Burton. The picture above shows the image we received as our brief from the client.
With this reference photo in our hands, the project was set in motion.
The problem The Good Guise had to solve was that it was impossible to find patterned fabrics that looked like those in the reference picture. To solve this problem, The Good Guise had to hand-paint patterns onto similar coloured fabrics with fabric paint. The next challenge was to deconstruct the dress and produce patterns which would enable us to cut the panels required too fabricate a costume that would look like the reference picture.
Pirouette Costume Hire and their client were thrilled with the final result.
During the making of the costume Nicole spent a lot of time with the client choosing fabrics and detailing.
On the right hand side is the final interpreted costume we produced for the party.
The Good Guise created patterns on fabrics with coloured fabric pens to mimic the textiles of the original Sally.

A lot of care and collaboration with the client went into the selection of the textile swatches and final choice of colours and materials required to create the Sally costume
Finally the costume starts to come together with the first stage of manufacture: Cutting the patterned pieces prior to sewing.
Even as the pieces were coming together to form the costume, there were still final choices to be made as you could see the actual panels coming together in their correct color proportions.
